Plants and flowers were originally pressed and preserved as a method to classify, learn, and teach. In Italy in the 1500’s pressed botanicals started to be appreciated as art. Ever since, especially in Victorian England, many pressed plants became beautiful flower compositions, and to this day a number of these are still copied and grace the walls of modern homes.
New and improved technologies in pressing and preserving plants, such as acid free papers, special glues, and UV glass give more versatility to this art form.  The palette of the pressed flower artist is now larger and more colorful.
Flowers, leaves, ferns and grasses are elements, which like drops of paints can be used to create or recreate magnificent bouquets, different styles of Still Life, natural or fantasy landscapes, and even abstract paintings!
